Czech Dreams 2011 were successfully kicked off

25 July 2011

On 2 July 2011 in Adorf/Germany, the festival opening concert of the international part of the third edition of the international cultural project Czech Dreams 2011 took place under the auspices of Minister of Culture of the Czech Republic, Jiří Besser. In his speech, he emphasised the scope and exceptionality of the project as well as its enormous significance for strengthening the contacts between the regions and collaboration in Europe. The St. Michaelis Church in Adorf was crowded up to the last seat and the audience highly acknowledged the superb performance of all protagonists – Brno Philharmonic, Czech Philharmonic Choir Brno, vocal soloists Hana Škarková, Adriana Kohútková, Richard Novák and conductor Tomáš Netopil. The third edition of the European culture project Czech Dreams aims at a presentation of leading Czech artists with mainly Czech classical repertoire through concerts abroad, and at a support of collaborations of Czech musicians and their European colleagues. No less important part of the project is a support of the cultural cooperation among Czech towns and their European partner municipalities, an establishing or an empowerment of relations among Czech cultural and educational institutions and their European colleagues and an enrichment of partnership activities within the European Union. The system of Czech basic music schools – which is unique in Europe – will also be introduced during the Czech Dreams. The Czech Dreams project ties dramaturgically in the Concentus Moraviae International Music Festival of 13 Towns. Under the motto “Czech Dreams”, the festival’s 16th edition took place in 17 Moravian towns from 28 May until 25 June 2011. The international part of the project is realised by Czech musicians performing at the Concentus Moraviae Festival who will present the repertoire prepared for the local event in Europe. The programme with the theme “Czech Dreams 2011 - In Search of a Lost Time: Imprints and Recollections” was conceived by the programming director Aleš Březina. In the second half of 2011 more than 100 concerts will be organised in 19 European countries. Concerts of the Czech Dreams will be held in about 70 towns and villages. One half of the concerts will be realised in partner towns and regions, the other half will be part of selected European festivals and concerts series. The following municipalities have preliminarily confirmed their participation in the European Dreams project 2011: Izegem, Sint Niklas (Belgium), Århus, Virum, Tommerup (Denmark), Kilingi Nomme (Estonia), Yvetot, Cairanne, Mellionec, Rennes, Soyaux, Gers, Toulouse, Kreiz-Breizh (France), Firenze, Sermoneta, Pergine Valdarno (Italy), Kaunas (Latvia), Nyírbátor, Sopron, Miskolc, Nagycenk, Palkonya (Hungaria), Konstanz, Aschheim, Oelsnitz, Adorf, Waldsassen, Crimmitschau, Schmölln, Minden, Ströbeck (Germany), Utrecht, Wijk aan Zee (Netherlands), Lodz, Rawa Mazowiecka, Bielsko-Biala (Poland), Hollabrun, Egenburg, Kirschheim, Salzburg, Innsbruck (Austria), Paxos (Greece), Trnava, Modra, Galanta, Medzilaborce, Levice, Košice, Bystré (Slovakia), Porrúa (Spain), Växjö, Uppsala, Malmö (Sweden), Murten, Bern (Schwitzerland), Aldeburgh, Preston, Huddersfield, Keele, Gloucester (Great Britain).
