Felix Meritis Foundation holds commemorative service on 4 September for Dragan Klaic

30 August 2011

Prof. Dr. Dragan Klaic (Sarajevo, 27th of April 1950) after a long though sudden sickness has passed away on the 25th of August 2011. The Felix Meritis Foundation holds a commemorative service on 4 September, 12.00, in Amsterdam. Since his encounters with Amsterdam in the late eighties, Dragan has been connected with Felix Meritis in many different ways; most recently as Permanent Fellow of the foundation. In all these years he has been an indispensable advisor, networker as well as active participant of the various Felix Meritis activities in Netherlands and abroad. Dragan has not only been a course leader and lecturer at the Amsterdam-Maastricht Summer University, he has also been a committed member of the Informal Working Body Gulliver, the international network of artists and intellectuals that since 1988 has been established in Felix Merits. He has been a respected author of several publications, acted as moderator and panellist and collaborated in many international co-operation projects. He also became a Board member of the Max Wagner Foundation co-initiated by Felix Meritis; which has produced a successful festival of Eastern European theatre companies in the Netherlands for several years. Until the very last moments of his life, Dragan had been discussing possible projects and activities with Felix Meritis. Just before being hospitalized he was discussing his role in the project that from now on will continue with his spirit ever present. This puts an end to more than twenty-three years of inspiring, exciting, sometimes challenging but always loyal and energetic co-operation. An obstinate and erudite cosmopolitan "cultural activist" is not anymore with us.
