LUCERNE FESTIVAL:ISPA Awards for Evelyn Glennie and the CREDIT SUISSE GROUP

11 June 2002

Within the scope of its 16th International Congress, hosted by LUCERNE FESTIVAL, the ISPA (International Society for the Performing Arts) will, on the occasion of a dinner on the Stanserhorn on Saturday, June 8, present two important awards: the Distinguished Artist Award and the Angel Award. Nicholas Kenyon, the Artistic Director of the BBC Proms, will hand the ISPA Distinguished Artist Award to one of the most fascinating musicians of our times: percussionist Evelyn Glennie, who looks back on a truly amazing and highly varied career. She is a musician unhampered by traditional limits who, with her programmes, reconciles the opposites between entertainment and classical music. With the ISPA Angel Award, the CREDIT SUISSE GROUP will be honoured for its pioneering dedication in the field of cultural promotion. The CREDIT SUISSE GROUP supports, within the scope of its sponsoring activities and its Jubilee Foundation, classical music, jazz and pop, fashion, and the fine arts. With its fashion competition, «Credit Suisse Prix Bolero», and the «Rendez-Vous»-Tour for Swiss artists, the CREDIT SUISSE GROUP pursues quite an innovative strategy of cultural sponsoring. With its «CREDIT SUISSE GROUP Young Artist Award», it moreover created one of the most attractive awards to promote highly talented young musicians. The Artistic and Executive Director of LUCERNE FESTIVAL, Michael Haefliger, will present the ISPA Angel Award to Lukas Mühlemann, President of the Board and CEO of the CREDIT SUISSE GROUP.
