Tuesday, 16 April | MeetUp on Senses, Places and Destinations

Be ready to play: we invite 200 delegates for an engaged exchange on

Arts Festivals, Cities, Communities and Cultural Tourism :

  • How can the power of the arts be applied as an “instrument” to influence the life in our cities and territories today?
  • What role for artists, festivals, urban developers and tourism colleagues in agreeing a joint vision for our cities?
  • What formats are there for dialogue?

The MeetUp will make a bow from concepts, practices, questions and needs in the world of tourism, to the local, urban reality, its communities (also in a European context) and the role of arts festivals as well as the arts and artists.

All activities of the MeetUp day are taking place in @SANA Lisboa Hotel.

Host of the day:  Annabelle Van Nieuwenhuyse

10:00-10:15 | Welcome and Introduction

10:15-11:30 | Impromptu 1: One-on-One or Pas de deux

Now it is your turn: To warm up, we will guide you towards the topic of the role of arts festival makers in cities and in our European community through one-on-one conversations. Open yourself, share your wisdom, table your traditional sweet from your country to break the ice for the morning portion of food (for thought).

11:30-12:30  | Introduction to Impromptu 2: Sharing your wisdom is making our business

Coming closer to the core of the day, 7 speakers take you to where they are from: city promoters, regional tourism boards, tourism agencies, artists and city festival makers. They start up a deeper reflection with all delegates in the afternoon.

12:30-13:30 | Buffet Lunch

13:30-15:00 | Impromptu 2: Sharing your wisdom is making our business in 7x30 break-out groups

7 break-out groups will delve into senses, places and destinations inspired and guided by the 7 speakers. Every session will be unique: but fear not! You’ll get to know what your other colleagues discussed in their sessions.

15:30-16:30 | Impromptu 3: 7 on 1

As promised you’ll have feedback from the  7 discussions you could not take part on.  7 Alumni from The Festival Academy have spent the afternoon reporting and digesting the Impromptu 2 sessions to now challenge a Key note speaker (tbc) on the next steps:  “What now?”. Questions can also be given to the rapporteurs on paper/through our Summit app “Whova” during the session by all participants.
